Plot Summary:

Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks) is a grumpy, rule-obsessed widower who lives in a quiet suburban neighborhood. A retired engineer, Otto spends his days enforcing neighborhood bylaws, glaring at his neighbors, and visiting the grave of his beloved wife, Eleanor. He’s given up on life—until a lively young family moves in next door.

Marisol (Rachel Zegler), a pregnant and kind-hearted woman, and her easygoing husband Tommy (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), slowly chip away at Otto’s hardened exterior. Despite his constant complaints about their “disruptive” presence, Marisol insists on bringing Otto homemade meals, asking for his help with repairs, and even teasing him about his grumpiness.

Through flashbacks (featuring Truman Hanks as young Otto), we see Otto’s past—his deep love for Eleanor, his struggles with loss, and how grief turned him into a recluse.

When the neighborhood faces a threat from a greedy real estate developer, Otto reluctantly teams up with his neighbors—including Sonya (Mariana Treviño), a sharp-witted elderly woman—to fight back. Along the way, Otto rediscovers purpose, friendship, and even becomes an unlikely mentor to Marisol and Tommy’s young son.
